How PeerAtlas Wants to Make Medical Information Free
During the last couple of years, the health industry has continued to advance, yet access to accurate medical information and advice is still unreliable, and often expensive. PeerAtlas represents an exciting project that wishes to create a peer-reviewed, blockchain-based and open-source medical encyclopedia for people throughout the world.
To put things better into perspective, at this time, access to medical information is often difficult to obtain and costs more than it should. This is mostly due to subscription-based online medical resources, which give out a great deal of useful information, yet are blocked by the paywall. PeerAtlas is, therefore, proposing the creation of a medical encyclopedia, available to anyone free of charge.
To make the project a reality, PeerAtlas is planning to introduce the ATLAS token, which is a NEP-5 asset, directly registered onto the NEO blockchain. It will be used to reward article creators, algorithm developers, and medical professionals, who devote their time in creating content for the encyclopedia. Additionally, ATLAS tokens will also be accepted as payment in return for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits that will be awarded to healthcare professionals using PeerAtlas.
Given the decentralized status-quo alongside with the absence of a paywall for the platform, PeerAtlas will no longer have to deal with vulnerabilities present on other platforms. Therefore, the encyclopedia will steer clear of subscription revenue dependence, financial sponsorships by drug companies/medical devices, and more. In other words, once live, the platform will be able to effectively guide its community towards professionals and quality medical advice.
The medical encyclopedia will have another advantage – the NEO blockchain. For those who do not know, NEO represents a non-profit, community-run blockchain network, whose purposes include: digitizing real-life assets, automating the management of digital assets via the use of smart contracts, creating a smart economy within the distributed blockchain network.
In the future, PeerAtlas is hoping to develop the world’s first and most advanced medical artificial intelligence system for knowledge, which will combine both medical recommendations with patient results, to help create a live rolling clinical trial for a variety of diseases and medical issues. Additionally, the development of the Atlas Health Network will allow for the creation of a complete, web-based medical ecosystem, capable of providing both resources and funding for the world’s newest innovative medical projects based on blockchain technology.
In an effort to make PeerAtlas a reality, the development team will soon be holding an Initial Coin Offering. The public presale is expected to take place in April 2018, whereas the ICO will be live on the 14th of May, 2018.
